A Wildflower Baby Shower at NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville, NC

There are baby showers.

And then there are baby showers with a giant flower-covered umbrella, approximately 900 gifts, kids climbing into the decor, flying tissue paper and a room full of people genuinely having a good time.

Obviously, I prefer the second kind.

Cassidy and Matt celebrated their baby girl with friends and family at NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville, NC, and the whole shower was bright, colorful and very appropriately themed around a little wildflower on her way.

Basically, there was no shortage of stuff for me to photograph.

Baby Shower Photography Without Turning the Shower Into a Photo Shoot

Here's my general feeling about photographing events: the event is the event.

I'm not there to turn your baby shower into an hour-long portrait session or interrupt every conversation because we haven't gotten a photo yet.

You should actually get to attend your own party.

So while we absolutely grabbed photos of Cassidy and Matt together and made sure the important people were documented, a lot of my job was simply paying attention.

The hugs. The laughing. People arriving. Kids doing whatever kids have decided they're doing. The reactions while gifts are being opened.

And, apparently, tissue paper being launched into the air.

That's the good stuff.

A Little Wildflower Is On Her Way

The setup for this NorthStone Country Club baby shower was ridiculously cute.

The greenery wall was covered with colorful flowers and a giant floral umbrella beneath a "A Little Wildflower Is On Her Way" sign. There were bright pinks, yellows, purples and blues throughout the shower, with plenty of details celebrating the baby girl on the way.

It was colorful without feeling fussy, which is very much my kind of party.

It also became a pretty popular spot for photos.

Including with the kids.

Especially with the kids.

Yes, It's Worth Hiring a Photographer for Your Baby Shower

Baby showers are one of those events where someone usually gets assigned to take pictures.

And that person then spends half the party looking at everything through their phone.

Or you end up with 137 pictures of the decorations before anyone arrived and somehow three photos containing actual people.

Hiring a photographer means nobody on your guest list has to be responsible for documenting the day.

More importantly, it means you get to see things you weren't standing there to see.

While you're talking to one group of people, something else is happening across the room. Someone's laughing. Your kid is investigating the decorations. Your friends are catching up. Your family is having conversations you aren't part of.

That's what event photography gives back to you.

Not just the posed picture in front of the pretty backdrop. The rest of it, too.

If you're planning a baby shower at NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville or somewhere else around Lake Norman, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville or the greater Charlotte area, you don't need a party that looks like it belongs in a magazine before it's "worth" photographing.

You need your people.

You have the party. I'll pay attention to the shenanigans.
