Lake Norman Extended Family Photos at Your Vacation Rental? Yep.

Getting your entire extended family in the same place at the same time deserves some kind of award.

This family came down from Ohio for a Lake Norman vacation, managed to get multiple generations together, and decided to do something very smart while everyone was actually in one place: family photos.

Even better?

We didn't have to go anywhere.

When people think about scheduling family photos during vacation, there's usually an immediate second thought:

"Okay...but where?"

Before you start researching parks and figuring out how to get 14 people into cars at the same time, look outside.

If you're renting a waterfront home on Lake Norman, you may already have everything we need.

This house had the lake, a dock, greenery and plenty of room to move everybody around. Instead of loading up the entire family and driving somewhere else, everyone walked outside barefoot and we got to work.

Very complicated process. 😉

Extended Family Photos Without Making Everyone Stand There Forever

With a big family, I want the giant everybody-in-one-photo picture.

Of course I do.

But that's only one photo.

Once everyone is together, we're going to make the most of it. That means grandparents with their grown kids. Individual families. Couples. Siblings. Cousins. Kids together.

And whatever happens when I stop asking everyone to stand nicely.

Which, in this case, included children getting picked up, thrown over shoulders and generally refusing to take this whole photo thing too seriously.

Perfect.

I'll get the photo where everybody is looking.

Then we can move on.

Kids Don't Need to Be Perfect for Extended Family Photos

Look at the kids in these photos.

They're barefoot. They're leaning on each other. One is on somebody's shoulders. There are actual personalities happening here.

That's what I want.

When there are several kids involved, I'm not interested in spending the entire session correcting them into perfect little positions. We'll get what we need, and then we're going to let them loosen up.

Your toddler is allowed to toddler.

Your six-year-old can be weird.

Your teenager can give me approximately eleven minutes before they've had enough of all of us.

We'll survive.

And you'll end up with pictures that actually look like the people you brought with you.

Family Vacation Photos on Lake Norman

If your extended family is traveling to Lake Norman, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville or the Charlotte area, vacation can be one of the easiest times to finally update your family photos.

Think about it.

Everyone is already coming.

Nobody has soccer practice in twenty minutes.

Grandma isn't three states away.

And if you've rented a house on the lake, there's a pretty good chance we don't even have to leave the property.

You bring the family.

I'll come to you.

After that, we'll see what kind of shenanigans happen.
