Eight Months Old and Already Running the Show | Baby Photography in Cornelius NC

Eight months old.

Two tiny teeth.

One ridiculously cute dress.

And absolutely no need for an elaborate setup.

Meet Lizzy.

She came into the studio for the sweetest, simplest little milestone session, and honestly? This is exactly why I love photographing babies at this age.

They're sitting. They're smiling. They're curious about everything. They're starting to show you A LOT of personality.

And if you hand them something interesting?

Excellent. We've got a plan.

Baby Photos Don't Need a Giant Theme

Somewhere along the way, baby photography became associated with elaborate sets, props, themes and enough decorations to plan a small wedding.

Those can absolutely be fun.

But you don't need any of it.

For Lizzy's eight-month milestone photos, we kept things super simple: a clean studio, one very cute baby and a dress I was slightly obsessed with.

That was plenty.

Without a busy setup competing for attention, the photographs are completely about her. Her big eyes. Those little teeth. The expressions. The way she sits. The way she grabs things with both hands.

Basically, all the tiny stuff that's going to change before anyone is ready for it.

Eight Months Is SUCH a Fun Age for Baby Photos

Everyone knows about newborn photos and first birthday photos.

But the months in between?

SO GOOD.

Around this stage, babies can often sit independently and interact more with the people around them. You start getting those huge smiles, curious looks and expressions that make you think, Ohhhh. There you are.

And Lizzy gave me plenty.

Sitting politely? Yep.

Smiling at me? Yep.

Lying on her belly looking entirely too pleased with herself? Also yep.

I didn't need her to perform or do anything particularly impressive.

She just got to be eight months old.

Simple Studio Photos Keep the Focus Where It Belongs

One of the reasons I love a clean studio setup for baby milestone photography is that it doesn't date the photographs.

There's room for personality without a bunch of stuff.

We used a simple white background and a few minimal props, then let Lizzy do the rest.

And can we discuss this dress?

The blue. The pink gingham. The little sleeves. The peach bow.

10/10. No notes.

It also looked completely different once I converted some of the photographs to black and white, which is why you'll usually see a mixture of both in my studio work.

Sometimes the color is half the fun.

Sometimes an expression is begging for black and white.

I'm keeping both.

You Don't Have to Wait Until the First Birthday

If you missed newborn pictures, that doesn't mean you've missed your chance.

If you've already done newborn pictures, you also don't have to wait an entire year to photograph your baby again.

Six months. Eight months. Nine months. Sitting confidently. First teeth. Crawling. Standing while holding onto everything you own.

There are SO many good stages during that first year.

And a milestone session doesn't have to be a production.

Bring the baby.

Bring an outfit you love.

Maybe bring a favorite little toy.

We'll handle the rest.
